EU Nations Call On Tehran To Halt Uranium Metal Work
France, Britain, and Germany expressed “deep concern” over Iran’s commencement of uranium enrichment up to 20% in one of its facilities.
ICBPS- France, Britain, and Germany have called on Jan 16, on Iran to halt Uranium Metal Work, warned Tehran against starting work on Uranium Metal-based fuel for the alleged research reactor.
The nations pressed Iran on Saturday to back off the latest planned violation of the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal with global powers.
In a joint statement, the European nations said “We strongly encourage Iran to end this activity, and return to full compliance with its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action without delay, if it is serious about preserving this agreement.”
France, Britain, and Germany also added “no credible civilian use” for uranium metal.
“The production of uranium metal has potentially grave military implications.”
The three countries say it contravened the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal.
Further, on Jan 14, the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency said that Iran has informed it the country has begun installing equipment for the production of uranium metal, in another breach of the 2015 nuclear deal.
Under Iran Nuclear Deal, Tehran was only allowed to enrich uranium up to 3.67%, but Iran has breached its commitment since the first days that the agreement was signed.
The threshold was, however, breached by Iran in response to the accord.
Tehran has always denied pursuing nuclear weapons, however, Uranium Metal can be used for a Nuke bomb, and research on its production is specifically prohibited under Iran Nuclear Deal — the so-called JCPOA — that Ayatollahs signed with Obama-led world powers, including Germany, France, Britain, China, Russia, and the United States in 2015.
Tehran has in past years breached its commitment under Iran Nuclear Accord which led U.S. President Donald Trump to unilaterally withdraw the United States from the so-called deal in 2018 and reimpose crippling sanctions on Mullahs.
